Joseph S. Janiga, 87
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Joseph Stanley Janiga, 87, of 45 Hudson St. died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at home.
Born in Adams on Oct. 11, 1919, son of Frank and Gertrude Janiga, he was educated in local schools.
Mr. Janiga was employed by the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates as a speeder tender until the outbreak of World War II.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served with antiaircraft units in North Africa, Italy and France, attaining the rank of technical sergeant.
Mr. Janiga was employed by the athletic department of Williams College until retiring in 1983. Before that, he was employed by the former M. Schmidt & Sons Furniture Store for more than 25 years until its closing. He also worked for the former Schiff Furniture Store and General Electric Co.
He was a longtime communicant of St. Anthony's Church.
His wife, the former Nancy A. Bruno, whom he married in February 1947 at St. Anthony's Church, died June 11, 2006.
He leaves a daughter, Diane Simpson of North Adams; two sons, Joseph F. Janiga of East Haven, Conn., and Robert B. Janiga and his wife, Deanna, of Williamstown; and four grandchildren, Heather Simpson, and Brian, Tracy and Matthew Janiga.
A brother, Frank Janiga, is deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Janiga will be celebrated Wednesday, July 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church. Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested for the St. Anthony Capital Campaign Fund through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
