Walter W. Tatro Jr., 71
CLARKSBURG, Mass. - Walter W. Tatro Jr., 71, of 175 Middle Road died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, with his wife and children at his side.
Born in Searsburg, Vt., on Sept. 12, 1937, son of Walter and Viola Reed Tatro, he moved to Clarksburg in his youth.
Mr. Tatro began working in construction in 1968, joining Carpenters Union Local 108 a year later. He was employed by various companies until retiring in 1993 because of poor health. He first worked at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates and Wall-Street Shoe Co., then as a supervisor of paper rolling at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams until the end of 1967.
He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, going to casinos and spending time with his family. He was a devoted, loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.
He and his wife, the former Helen Zabek, were married May 10, 1958.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, David Tatro and Lance Tatro, both of Stamford, Vt.; three daughters, Christine Tatro of the town of Florida, Susan Morris of Clarksburg and Laurie Schnopps of Hendersonville, N.C.; a brother, Donald Tatro of Clarksburg; three sisters, Edna Cooper and Rosella Cote, both of Williamstown, and Rena DeMarsico of North Adams; eight grandchildren, Kristen, Peter, Emberley, Dylan, Jalissa, Brandon, Michael and Aaron; three great-grandchildren, four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for Mr. Tatro will take place Thursday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at Stamford (Vt.) Community Church. Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Wednesday evening from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels. Memorial donations may be made to the Lung Association or the American Heart Association through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
