Richard J. Vanasse, 82
STAMFORD, Vt. â€' Richard James Vanasse, 82, of 1477 Main Road and formerly of Williamstown, Mass., died on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Williamstown Commons after a brief illness.
Born in Northampton, Mass., on Nov. 18, 1927, son of Phillip and Margaret Malley) Vanasse, he graduated from Northampton High School. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1952 and a master's degree in chemistry from UMass in 1954.
He was a Navy veteran.
Mr. Vanesse was employed at the former Sprague Electric Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1988 as corporate director of Analytic Services. He was last employed as a quality control supervisor at Holland Chemical Co. in Adams for 20 years until his retirement in 2007.
He was a member and past president of the Williamstown Lions Club. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Taconic Golf Club. He also enjoyed volleyball, bowling and gardening.
His wife, Helen M. Sylvester, died on Nov. 1, 2007. They were married on Sept. 4, 1950.
Survivors include a son, Richard Vanasse of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands; two daughters, Carol Vanasse and her husband, Stephen Lowell, of Newport Center, Vt., and Joan Allen and her husband, Richard, of Cohasset, Mass.; three grandchildren, Caitlin Lowell and Daniel and Brooke Allen; a sister, Jeanne Jones, and her husband, Howard, of Ludlow, Mass; and nieces and nephews.
A sister, Anne Garvey, is deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' The funeral for Richard Vanasse will be Monday, Feb.8, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will be in the spring in Millard Cemetery in Stamford, Vt. Calling hours are Monday from 11 to 1. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stamford Community Library in care of the funeral home.
