Mary F. Messier, 97
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Mary Frances Messier, 97, of 546 Union St. died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at North Adams Commons.
Born in North Adams on March 9, 1913, daughter of Frank and Vittorina Parrino Bushika, her mother died when she was young and she was raised by her stepmother, Maria Carbone Bushika. She graduated from Drury High School in 1931.
She lived in Williamstown and East Longmeadow before returning to North Adams in 1942.
Mrs. Messier was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for 27 years, until 1970. She then worked at the former Collins Treasure Chest store until her retirement in 1979.
She was a communicant of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church and a former member of the Italian Girls Club. She also was a member of the Sprague Quarter Century Club and the Sons of Italy. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She leaves a daughter, Maureen P. Wilcox of North Adams; two sisters, Theresa Pontier and Joan Cellana, both of North Adams; a brother, Frank Bushika Jr. of North Adams; four grandchildren, Mark Dumas, Timothy Dumas and Paula McAuliffe and her husband, Patrick, all of Pownal, Vt., and Neal Dumas and his companion, Carrie Devlin, of Bennington, Vt., and seven great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings Josephine Campedelli, Kathryn Bushika, Frances "Cheena" Bushika, Teresa Bushika and Joseph, George, Victor and Jerome Bushika.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Messier will be Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 10:15 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, Sept. 21, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Elizabeth Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
