Joseph R. St. Pierre, 92
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Joseph R. St. Pierre, 92, of 271 Notch Road, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Williamstown Commons.
Born in North Adams on Oct. 28, 1918, a son of Jean and Edmire Landry St. Pierre, he attended the former Holy Family School in North Adams.
A decorated Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he proudly served in England.
Mr. St. Pierre was employed by the city of North Adams in the Water Department, retiring in the early 1980s. He had earlier worked for at the former Berkshire Hathaway Mills and for the Berkshire Construction Co.
He was devoted Catholic and a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church and a member Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion. He enjoyed gardening and caring for his home. His greatest love was spending time with his family and grandchildren, great- and great-great grandchildren, who will miss him deeply.
Mr. St. Pierre was proud of his military service to his country during the war and was grateful to be an American.
His wife, the former Alice Bissaillon, whom he married Aug. 8, 1953, died Aug. 4, 1999.
He leaves his loving daughters Nancy Bishop of Adams, Diane Maloney of Northampton, Brenda Roy of Morrice, Mich. and Joanne Fitch of Seattle; a sister, Margaret Pilot of the state of Florida; grandchildren Jeffrey Maloney, Brian Bishop, Keith Maloney, Lisa Maloney, Tammy Suprenant, Cindy Tinney and Beth Burdick; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, including Dick St. Pierre, Charlene Cheesboro and Wayne Cheesboro whom the family would like to thank for all the love, kindness and time they gave to Mr. St. Pierre over the years.
He was predeceased by sisters Marion Field, Emma Rivard, Yvonne Benoit, Blanche Hamelin, Albina Michaels, and brothers Adelard, Ernest, Roy, Oliva, Henry, Alphonse and Armand St. Pierre.
FUNERAL NOTICE - A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. St. Pierre will take place Saturday, April 16, at 9 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams. Burial with full military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for the North Adams American Legion, to be used for youth scholarships and activities, through the funeral home.
