Donald K. Bishop, 85

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Donald K. Bishop, 85, of 1095 Mohawk Trail, a former longtime resident of Stamford, Vt., died Monday, April 25, 2011, at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on Aug. 3, 1925, son of Kenneth G. and Estella Griffin Bishop, he attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School in 1943. A Navy veteran of World War II, he enlisted after graduating high school and served on the light cruiser USS Miami in the South Pacific. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal with four stars and the American Area and Philippines Liberation Medal. He was discharged as a petty officer, third class, and coxswain. Mr. Bishop was employed by the former Wirthmore Feeds and Agway Inc. and was well known throughout the area's farm and building-trades industries. He was store manager for Agway at its former Williamstown and Pittsfield locations. He was last employed as a farm enterprise salesman, retiring at age 60. He lived up to his high school yearbook designation as a "Gentleman Farmer" and maintained many animals. He also was a 60-year member of the Brattleboro (Vt.) Lodge of Masons 102. He and his wife, the former Florence L. O'Neil, were married on Nov. 17, 1947. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Gail Miller and her husband, Paul, of Cheshire and Lois Filiault of North Adams; a sister, Susan Cancro and her husband, Edward, of North Adams; five grandchildren, Doreen Dix and her husband, Michael, of Plainville, Chad Wagenknecht and his wife, Carrie, of Savoy, and Cristabal Filiault, Keith Filiault and Jennifer Filiault, all of North Adams, and three great-grandchildren FUNERAL NOTICE - A graveside service for Mr. Bishop will be held on Saturday morning, May 14, at 11 at Clarksburg Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
