Madeline J. Dougherty, 88
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Madeline Janet Dougherty, 88, of 241 Mohawk Forest Blvd. died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at Williamstown Commons.
Born in North Adams on Feb. 10, 1923, daughter of Russell E. and Della Mae Daniels Atwood, she graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1940.
Mrs. Dougherty was employed as a resident manager in an apartment building in Maryland until her retirement. Before that, she worked at Daniels Linen & Curtain Shop in North Adams for about 20 years. She returned to North Adams in 2001.
She was a member of Blackinton Union Church and its Guild. She was also a member of the North Adams Historical Society and enjoyed being around people.
Her husband, James Gene Dougherty, whom she married on Oct. 31, 1964, died on Oct. 18, 1973.
She leaves a sister, E. Jean Waterman of Williamstown, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
Five sisters and two brothers predeceased her: Charlotte Rooney Gillooly, Susan Heisler Walden, Irene Wojieck, Margaret Gyurasz, Frances Atwood, Russell E. Atwood Jr. and Donald J. Atwood.
FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mrs. Dougherty will be Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 11 from Blackinton Union Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
A calling hour will be held at the church on Wednesday morning from 10 until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blackinton Union Church in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA 01247.
