Charles W. Latimer, 86

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Charles White Latimer, 86, of 488 East Main St., died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Williamstown Commons. Born in New York City on April 20, 1925, son of Harold and Edith Thayer Latimer, he attended schools there. He retired to the Berkshires in the early 1990s to be near family. A Marine Corp veteran of World War II, he enlisted at age 17 and, in 1944, he was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Mr. Latimer was appointed postmaster of Pleasant Valley, Conn., in 1963 and retired after 30 years with the U.S. Postal Service. He had first worked in New York City as a singer and performer on Broadway. He was a member of the Actors Equity Association and the Lions Club in Connecticut. His wife, the former Janice Householder, died in 2001. He leaves his son and daughter-in-law, Lance T. and Marcia Latimer of North Adams, and three grandchildren, Lance C. Latimer and Jaclyn Latimer, both of North Adams and Jess Latimer of Pittsfield. He is predeceased by a brother and three sisters. FUNERAL NOTICE - Mr. Latimer's request, there will be no services.
