Ruth L. Abbott, 88
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Ruth Lillian Abbott, 88, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of North Adams, died Sunday, June 3, 2012 in Arizona.
Born in North Adams on July 10, 1923, daughter of Ernest and Lily Sprowson Jones, she graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1941.
Mrs. Abbott was employed at North Adams Regional Hospital for many years as a pharmacy technician, retiring in 1987.
After retiring, she volunteered at NARH and, for 21 years, at Boswell Memorial Hospital in Arizona. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting and having lunch with friends. She also liked to play croquet and miniature golf.
Her husband, Northway W. Abbott, whom she married on March 19, 1943, died March 21, 2009.
She leaves two daughters, Carol Ann DeBlois and her husband, Gregory, of Adams, Linda R. DeBlois-McCarthy and her husband, James F. McCarthy Jr., of North Adams; four grandchildren, William DeBlois and his wife, Tracy Martino DeBlois, of Lunenburg, Daniel A. DeBlois of Dalton, Laura DeBlois Slade and her husband, Thomas, of Heartwellville, Vt., Robert Scott DeBlois and his wife, Gwendalyn Sawyer DeBlois, of Savoy; and eight great-grandchildren, David Francis DeBlois, Emily Louise DeBlois, Elizabeth Marie DeBlois, Justine Lillian Slade, Krista Marie Slade, Zachery DeBlois, Timothy DeBlois and Morgan Marie DeBlois.
Her brother, Ernest E. Jones Jr., died Sept. 26, 1985, and her son-in-law Norman DeBlois on June 17, 1992.
FUNERAL NOTICE - A graveside burial service for Mrs. Abbott will take place on Sunday, July 10, 2012, in the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams, at 1 p.m.
