Walter V. Sawicki, 90
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Walter V. Sawicki, 90, of Cocoa, Fla., and a longtime resident of 64 College Ave. died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at the Wuesthoff Medical Center in Rockledge, Fla., surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Poland on Feb. 14, 1922, a son of Boleslaw and P. Swiderska Sawicki, he attended schools in Poland and came to the United States in 1963.
Mr. Sawicki was employed for many years as an machinist at the former Cornish Wire Co. in Williamstown.
A communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, and was a member of the Greylock Community Club and of the Polish National Alliance in Adams. He loved gardening and picking mushrooms. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and loved to socialize.
His wife, the former Lillian Kulisz, whom he married June 30, 1945, in Poland, died Oct. 7, 2011.
He leaves two daughters, Wiesia Dion and her husband, William, of Kissimmee, Fla., and Angie Sheridan and her husband, Steve, of Cocoa; two sons, Frank Sawicki and his wife, Glenda, of Knoxville, Tenn., and William Sawicki of Cocoa, with whom he made his home, six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Zygmunt Sawicki.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Sawicki will take place Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 11 from St. Elizabeth Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
A calling hour will be held Tuesday from 9:3 to 10:30 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams.
