Evelyn F. Ciempa, 93

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Evelyn F. Ciempa, 93, of 215 Houghton St. died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown. Born in Adams on April 6, 1919, daughter of Emil and Sarah Sprague Kleiner, she attended Adams and North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School. Mrs. Ciempa was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for 29 years, retiring in 1981. She had first worked at the former Berkshire Mill. She was a member of the former St. John's Episcopal Church, and of IUE 200 Retirees and the Sprague Quarter Century Club. She enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Berkshire County Line Dancers. In her younger years, she was a den mother for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. She enjoyed bingo, fishing, travel, and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her husband, Joseph D. Ciempa Sr., whom she married Aug. 23, 1935, died March 29, 1996. She leaves two sons, Michael Ciempa and David Ciempa, both of North Adams; two sisters, Marguerite Cross of Adams and Lily Kuzia of Clarksburg; a brother, Reginald Kleiner of Worcester; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Her daughter, Darla Ciempa, and three sons Joseph D. Ciempa Jr., Gerald Ciempa and Donald Ciempa predeceased her. Her siblings Ethel Brown, Rachel Ashton, Ruth Syrus and George, Ralph and Robert Kleiner are also deceased. FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mrs. Ciempa will be Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. A calling hour will be held Wednesday afternoon from 1 until the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
