NORTH ADAMS — A Berkshire County company is driving into the fast lane. North Adams-based Raceway Media LLC has inked a deal with SCORE Motorsports to be the primary sponsor of its No. 02 NEXTEL Cup Series entry, which will be driven by Carl Long this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The company is using the race to promote its online classified division, www.racingjunk.com. Ryan Maturski of Pownal, Vt., co-owner of Raceway Media, said the opportunity was too good to pass up. "We had been following this story with Hermie Sadler and Carl Long since Rockingham, and I really wanted to get involved,” he said. “This is a great opportunity for us to help Hermie and Carl have a successful weekend, while creating awareness for www.racingjunk.com at the same time. We are proud to be on the car and look forward to a great race on Sunday." RacingJunk.com is a free online classified service where racers, racing fans, and enthusiasts can find everything race-related, from racing parts and engines to complete racecars and anything in between. Approximately $80 million worth of products are currently posted on the site, with up to 600 new ads posted daily. Raceway is a division of Boxcar Media, owner of The Advocate and Family Beat newspapers and the iBerkshires.com Web site. Driver Long has had some hard knocks in recent seasons, leading up to a horrific crash in February that left him without a car and without a sponsor. His luck changed, though, when he hooked up with fellow driver Hermie Sadler, co-owner of SCORE Motorsports with retired NBA star Bryant Stith. They scrambled to get Long qualified for the Vegas race, then capped the turnaround by partnering with new sponsor RacingJunk.com. Sadler called it one of most amazing weeks of his racing career. "I have never experienced this type of reaction to something I was involved in, and I am not even driving,” he said. “The way this deal has taken off this week is a great feeling. There are a lot of people out there that want to help the underdogs out, and it is fun. We will be representing a lot of people this weekend in addition to Raceway Media. We are proud to have them as a part of this effort this weekend," said the 1993 NASCAR Busch Series rookie of the year. Congressman Neal Talks With Reid Middle School Students

By Brittany PolitoiBerkshires Staff

Congressman Neal answered questions from students as part of their civics projects.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — U.S. Rep. Richard Neal answered questions from an eighth-grade class at Reid Middle School on Thursday.

Students in Susan Mooney's class prepared questions related to their civics projects, ranging from government transparency and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to sports to mental health.

"Be discerning, be fact-driven, and you know what? As I say to my own children, resist emotional decision making," Neal told the class.

"You generally will come up with the wrong decision if it's very emotional, and the other part I can give you, an important part of my career: you're always going to give a better answer tomorrow."

In Massachusetts, eighth-grade students are required to complete a civics project focusing on community issues, research, and action.

Students focusing their project on ICE said they found that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is tasked with protecting citizens. They asked Neal why ICE is controlling DHS when agents "do the opposite."

"ICE needs to be reformed and restrained, but a lot of it has much to do with the president's position on it," he said, adding that the fundamental job of the federal government is to protect its people.

"We just need to know who's in the country for a variety of reasons. When the president says he's rooting out the criminals, nobody disagrees with that, but that's not what's happening, is it? It's now people that are just showing up in the courthouse to do what we call 'regularizing their status' that are being apprehended."
