Bartlett’s Orchard, Richmond, Massachusetts will host an energy tour on Monday, July 19, 2004, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The tour will highlight how energy efficient technologies and renewable energy can benefit farms by reducing costs and energy usage. After touring Bartlett’s orchard, the group will walk to the neighboring home of Stephen Congdon. Congdon’s 1800’s colonial house has ground-mounted solar electric panels and a solar domestic hot water system mounted on the roof. Congdon, a Berkshire County pioneer in solar energy, will explain the different technologies in use at his home and the benefits of producing his own electricity. Farmers have a chance to hear firsthand how a technology saves money, improves operations and lessens environmental impacts of farm operations. Area farmers and interested others are invited to this free tour. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear good walking shoes. The department received entries from public elementary and middle school classrooms across the commonwealth to name the 12 MassDOT snowplows that will be in service during the 2025/2026 winter season.
