Several Western Massachusetts campgrounds earned high marks in the Top 100 list
Several Western Massachusetts and Berkshire County recreation areas earned kudos in ReserveAmerica's new listing of "America's Top 100 Campgrounds."
The recreation reservation and campground management organization posted its third annual listing on March 31. According to ReserveAmerica, the listing was developed with the help of park rangers, regional park management and campers, who were invited to rate campgrounds and provide testimonials. The organization reviewed nearly 3,000 parks and camping areas and the top 100 were picked based on park amenities such as "stunning outdoor scenery, and educational facilities...Also considered were the quality and availability of hot showers, laundry facilities, hiking trails, family beaches, radio-free zones, visitor centers, educational programs, children's events and location."
"Our third annual Top 100 Family Campground award continues our commitment to creating a resource for the camping consumer looking to plan and reserve a camping trip for this spring or summer," said Brendan Ross, President of ReserveAmerica, which is based in Ballston Spa, NY. "We are proud to honor these outstanding public outdoor recreation facilities, that provide such a high level of service and dedication, while protecting our beautiful natural areas for future generations."
The Clarksburg State Park in Northern Berkshire County earned a spot on the list, as did the Mohawk Trail State Forest in Charlemont and Tolland State Forest in East Otis. Other Baystate areas to earn honors include Nickerson State Park on Cape Cod and Wells State Park in Sturbridge.

Dalton Day Returns This Saturday
By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff
DALTON, Mass. — The town's popular Dalton Day festival is returning this weekend after a year's hiatus.
The event will kick off this Saturday at 11 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. in the field in front of the Senior Center.
The community celebration was established in 2023 by the Cultural Council in an effort to increase resident participation at town meetings while also showcasing the area's welcoming, diverse, artistic and sporty atmosphere. In 2024, the event brought together 300 residents.
"The primary mission of Dalton Day is to foster a strong sense of community, build civic pride, and bring residents together through a shared celebration of local culture, music, and food," said Jeannie Ingram, Select Board member and cultural council chair, and Lori Venezia, executive assistant to the town manager.
The event provides an accessible and free platform for "civic education, community bonding, and supporting local businesses, artisans, makers, and culture more broadly," they said.
The festival strengthens the fabric of the town both civically and economically by connecting grassroots organizations with residents, fostering a shared sense of belonging, and providing free, family-friendly entertainment.
It also serves as an opportunity for community members to meet with local officials and a couple of state officials. State Sen. Paul Mark and state Rep. Leigh Davis will be coming from Beacon Hill to speak at the event.
