North Adams — In an effort to serve its expanding business, Premier Realty Concepts’ broker-owners Peter West, CCIM and Corey Bishop, CRS, announced the addition of Hoosick Falls resident and Adams native, Debra Aulisio Mahar, to its steadily expanding team of realty professionals.
“I’m passionate about this area,†states Mahar. “I’ve developed strong personal and business relationships through my Adams photography studio—which I’ve maintained for 14 years. I’m looking forward to working with acquaintances and old friends as well as new people,†she continues. “I’ve had an affinity for real estate for years and friends suggested I get my license. I took the class in February, got certified, stopped in to introduce myself to Premier’s owners and was hired that night.â€
Mahar began work with Premier on April 1, bringing her strong focus and successful track record with her. “I got my first mailings out within two weeks and I’m currently doing a market evaluation for a Dalton family—helping them to price their home for sale. For now, I’m working in the residential area and will be adding commercial properties in the future. I feel strongly about working with Premier, because I believe Peter and Corey have a lot of energy and their attitude is right on the nose. They’re go-getters and fun to work with. Record’s dynamic client-centered approach and dedication to the local community, is a perfect fit for the energetic, entrepreneurial spirit that drives Premier’s business philosophy. A graduate of Drury High, the new associate moved quickly after making her decision to take on real estate, from her previous customer-focused experience in food services. “I’m a people person,†said Record. “This past New Year’s a friend recommended I try real estate. I took a three-day course at the Pittsfield Crowne Plaza, read the books for three hours a day for two weeks, took the state exam in Springfield and got my credential to become a ‘Licensed Real Estate Professional’. A friend told me about Premier’s growth and need for new agents, I met with Corey and Pete and I was hired that night.â€
Record, who officially began work at the company March 7, received immediate training and support from West and Bishop, utilizing videos and the company’s contacts with area banks for essential financing facts. She said, “With Premier’s help, I created a letter to my personal contacts and mailed it with my business cards. I’m very aggressive—I want to get the job done. This is my business and I’m only going to get out of it what I put in.†Record completed her third sale by mid-April, six-weeks after starting her new career.

King-Sylvester, who signed on with Premier on March 1, sees tremendous potential both in the company and in the real estate sector, “I got my license this year with the vision of working with Corey and Peter, who I’ve known for years. The dynamic single mom, who spent several years in internet and high-end copier sales in the New England region and has worked in sales at several area car dealerships, brings a wealth of creative problem-solving and leadership to her new real estate venture.

North Adams Selected for $2.5M Pilot 'Creative District' Program

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A $2.5 million grant for a "creative district" pilot is being seen as a way to leverage past studies and business and arts leaders' input to strengthen the revitalization of the downtown.
The three-year grant is from the Barr Foundation, a Boston-based philanthropic organization that aids communities in unlocking potential for creativity, growth and equity. The foundation partners with the Mass Development and has supported its Transformative Development Initiative program.
"We are just so excited about the opportunity to be part of the creative initiative," said Mayor Jennifer Macksey on Thursday. "Not being designated a gateway community, we thought that was going to hinder us, but Mass Development really came and circled around us.
"We've assembled a great team, and I'm very excited about the work that is going to be done."
This is a new economic development program, and will be used by North Adams to leverage arts and culture as drivers of equitable growth while supporting small businesses and creative entrepreneurs, and positioning the Northern Berkshires for future public and private investment.
"I think this is really going to launch our economic development model — develop it, plan it, and also, again, reach out to the business community, the art community, the municipal community, the residents, and get us all working together to grow North Adams," Macksey said.
One of the first things for the city will be to hire a creative district fellow to work alongside local partners and coordinate program implementation, strengthen collaboration across the district, and advance catalytic projects.
