Deb Pasternak will appear in North Adams on Saturday at the Railway Cafe
The Railway Café, a nonprofit monthly folk concert series, begins its third season with Deb Pasternak on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m. at St. John’s Parish House in North Adams. Admission is $10 in advance, $12 at the door, and $8 for students and seniors. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. According to music critics, Pasternak is one of the most versatile performers on the singer/songwriter circuit, combining many genres into one set, including country, rock, folk, blues and jazz. Pasternak takes all of these influences and more, and puts them into unique solo performances and CDs. Her music has been described as folk or jazz, blues, and even “Nirvana-by-way-of-Neil-Young rock.” She will perform songs from her new independently released album Home. She has been nominated for Boston Music awards and has garnered national acclaim for both her recordings and performances. Pasternak, a performing songwriter since the mid-1990s, had taken time out from her career after the events of Sept. 11 to become more involved in her local community and also to assess the pros and cons of life as a traveling musician. Future Railway performers this fall include Peter Mulvey on October 4, Billy Jonas on November 1 and Lori McKenna on December 6. The Railway Café is supported in part by the local chapter of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, by the volunteers who help run the series and by audience attendees.
