Tanglewood hosts fifth annual Wine and Food Classic - August 02, 2007
 | | Tanglewood Wine and Food Classic from August 8 to 11 | Four-day event features select Wines and Cuisine in the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra
Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, hosts its fifth annual Wine and Food Classic from August 8 to 11. The event features wines from around the world, as well as a gala auction and dinner, wine and food seminars, and a reception with the winemakers.
The Wine and Food Classic opens at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, with a Mountaintop Dinner at Cheever Hill Farm in Richmond, featuring a five course dinner and Burgundy wines. A Wine Auction Gala at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, at Seranak features wines presented by Ray Coursen of Elyse Vineyards in Napa Valley and by Antoine de Boysson of M. Chapoutier in the Rhône Valley, as well as the culinary talents of Wheatleigh’s Jeffrey Thompson and Antoine Camin of La Goulue in New York. A cocktail reception begins at 6 p.m. Following the dinner, guests can bid on items such as vintage wines and vacation getaways in an auction to benefit the BSO’s Youth and Family Programs. Tickets are $225 per plate.
On Friday, August 10, Jason Sobocinski of Caseus in New Haven leads a seminar on the fundamentals of cheese-tasting. Tickets for this 3 p.m. seminar at Tanglewood’s Highwood Manor are $50. At 4:30 p.m., wine connoisseurs can mingle with the festival’s winemakers on the lawn at Wheatleigh and enjoy appetizers by chef Jeffrey Thompson. Tickets are $50.
The Tanglewood Wine and Food Classic offers three seminars in Tanglewood Highwood Manor at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 11. Author Trevor Corson leads a discussion about and tasting of sushi; this special tasting will include the Sauvignon Blancs of New Zealand’s Allan Scott and sushi by Nick Macioge of Fin in Lenox. Tickets are $40. Bill Nesto, Master of Wine, offers his thoughts on the quality and versatility of wines from Italy’s Piedmont region, which produces Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, Dolcetto, and sparkling Moscato wines. Tickets for this tasting and seminar are $50. Josh Needleman, chocolatier and owner of Lenox’s Chocolate Springs, also hosts a seminar on chocolate. Tickets are $40.
The Grand Tasting begins at noon on Saturday, August 11, and features premium wines and specialty foods prepared by renowned chefs from the Berkshires, Boston, and New York. Tickets for this special Tanglewood event are $95. A combination ticket for the Grand Tasting and a $40 or $50 seminar can be purchased for $120. There will be bus service from Boston for $30.
