NORTH ADAMS - The last concert in the 2007 "Music in the Park" series will be presented by the four-member band Miss Guided on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 6:30 p.m. at Western Gateway Heritage State Park.
Members of the North Adams-based group include Mike Pytko on vocals, acoustic and electric guitar; Jeff Garrison, vocals, harmonica, percussion and acoustic guitar; Ron Mariani, bass guitar; and Bruce Pierce, vocals, percussion and keyboard.
Their musical repertoire draws from classic rock 'n' roll from the '50s to the '90s as well as country music from the same eras. The band covers artists such as Jim Croce, Tom Petty, Neil Young, The Romantics, Alabama and the Turtles and plays some original works.
The concerts are held on the north-end deck of Building 4 by the caboose. Concertgoers are asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket and must park in the north end or the Sons of Italy parking lots. People are encouraged to bring picnic suppers. Although no admission is charged, donations are accepted and greatly appreciated so that the concert series can continue.
The park is located on Route 8 between State and Furnace streets. The state Department of Conservation and Recreation operates the Visitors' Center seven days a week from 10 to 5 and is the sponsor of the concert. The park houses an exhibit on the building of the Hoosac Tunnel from 1850-1875 and the rich history of the area. It also maintains an extensive tourist information center and public restrooms.

Sanford, Maine, Edges SteepleCats in Season Opener
By Stephen DravisiBerkshires.com Sports
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The SteepleCats Sunday started their 2026 season the way they ended their 2025 campaign: with a narrow loss to the Sanford Mainers.
Sanford, which won a best-of-three playoff series against North Adams last August, scored four runs on 14 hits to earn a 4-2 win at Joe Wolfe Field.
The Mainers broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run rally in the third inning, and four Sanford pitchers combined to collect 11 strikeouts as the visitors improved to 2-1 this summer.
North Adams, which saw its planned road opener rained out on Saturday, got to open the season in front of its home fans.
And those fans saw a strong performance from the North Adams pitching staff, which, despite allowing 14 hits, including five doubles, gave up just three earned runs.
“I like the grit,” SteepleCats coach Mike Gladu said of his team’s Game 1 performance. “I thought the pitchers performed pretty well. We had a couple of situations where we definitely should have gotten some runs in and didn’t get that hit.
“And there were a couple of plays with a little rust. Certainly, the ball that was hit over [Evan] Meier’s in left field, he just mistracked that one. And the extra run they scored in the eighth, the kid wasn’t going to go [from third on a fly ball], we made a throw and nobody could stop it.
