Norman Rockwell Museum Receives Local Education and Curatorial Grants - September 14, 2007
Stockbridge - Norman Rockwell Museum has received two generous grants from local organizations to help support both its educational and curatorial efforts.
The Museum received a $25,000 grant from the town of Stockbridge Community Preservation Committee to support preservation, detailed cataloguing, and public access for the Museum's extensive Norman Rockwell Stockbridge Photographic Collection. The project is a critical component of the Museum's multi-year initiative, ProjectNORMAN, and will help to preserve a significant era of the Town of Stockbridge's history and culture. Norman Rockwell's historic place in the Town has helped to maintain and preserve the character of Stockbridge. The grant is from a municipal fund established through the Community Preservation Act and administered by the Stockbridge Community Preservation Committee.
A $6,000 grant was received from Sheriff Carmen C. Massimiano, Jr. and the Deputies of Berkshire County to support essential art programs at Norman Rockwell Museum for many of the elementary school children in Berkshire County. These children will benefit from hands-on art experience as they stretch their imaginations and explore the world of Norman Rockwell and illustration art. The grant was funded with proceeds from the annual Sheriff's Road Race. The Art Programs for Schoolchildren began in 2006 with a generous grant from High Meadow Foundation, and additional support from Sheriff Massimiano and the Deputies of Berkshire County, and a Target Local Store grant.
