School Committee Candidates to Debate

- October 11, 2007

PITTSFIELD - Berkshire Community College, in collaboration with the Pittsfield Gazette and Pittsfield Community Television, will host a debate Tuesday evening, Oct. 16, for the candidates seeking election to the Pittsfield School Committee.

The debate, which will be held in two parts with a brief recess in between, starts at 7 in the Robert Boland Theatre on BCC’s main campus.

The 11 candidates vying for seats on the committee include Kathleen Amuso, William Ballen, Churchill Cotton, George Desnoyers Jr., Daniel Elias, Carmen C. Massimiano Jr., Angel Ramirez Jr., Erin Sullivan, Daltrey Turner, Dorothy van den Honert, and Peter White. The moderator for the event will be Clarence Fanto, former managing editor of The Berkshire Eagle and former news director of WAMC Radio.

Voters will have an opportunity to select up to six candidates on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The six top finishers will serve on the School Committee during 2008-2009.

The public is invited to watch the debate, either in person at BCC or via the live telecast on CityLink, the government channel of PCTV. The debate will also be rebroadcast on PCTV several times prior to the November election.

Jonathan Levine, publisher of the Gazette, has coordinated debates and forums for every contested Pittsfield race since 1991.
