Epoch Hosting 'Brain Fair' for Seniors - October 23, 2007
PITTSFIELD - EPOCH Assisted Living will host a unique half-day “Brain Fitness” health fair for seniors on Thursday, Nov. 8, from noon to 4:30 p.m., that will include renowned memory care expert Joyce Simard; a demonstration of Posit Science’s Brain Fit program, recently highlighted on NBC’s Today Show and in the New York Times; specific brain fitness activities and general memory issue discussions. In addition, Harriet M. Vines, Ph.D., author of Age Smart, has been added to this unique health fair list of presenters.
It also will include a demonstration of Posit Science's Brain Fit program, recently highlighted on NBC's "Today Show" and in The New York Times, specific brain fitness activities and general memory-issue discussions.
Epoch is at 140 Melbourne Road. The fair is free and all presentations are open to the public.
The schedule is as follows:
● Noon: Light lunch.
●12:30 p.m.: Demonstration of Posit Science's Brain Fit program, a computer-based memory enhancement program for seniors that Epoch offers its residents.
●1 p.m.: Presentation by Marcia McKenzie, coordinator for the Western Massachusetts Alzheimer's Association, in which she will discuss Alzheimer’s and highlight local available resources.
●2 p.m.: Brain fitness activities for the audience.
●3 p.m.: Presentation by Joyce Simard called "Making Visits Count." Simard recently published a children's book to help bridge the gap between youngsters and grandparents and other relatives who may suffer from dementia. Simard will sign copies of her book, "The Magic Tape Recorder," after her presentation.
