Soup For Sudan Community Dinner Benefits Education In Darfur

- October 29, 2007

Join us for “Soup for Sudan,” a benefit dinner to raise funds for primary schools in Sudan. The dinner will feature all authentic Sudanese food and will be on Saturday, November 3rd at Greylock Dining Hall on the Williams College campus.

A speaker from Sudan will be giving speeches at 5:45 and 6:30. Soup for Sudan is sponsored by Peace Talk Africa, a Williams College social justice group. The event is in collaboration with Williams College Dining Services, as organized by Molly O'Brien, Fred Ackley, and Chris Abayasinghe.

All profits will directly benefit the Darfur Peace and Development Organization (DPDO), specifically the Darfur Schools Project. DPDO sponsors 12 elementary schools in Northern Darfur with a total enrollment of 5,900 student.

The project funds teacher salaries and ensures the delivery of textbooks and supplies. DPDO is developing a collaboration with UNICEF for school supplies and with WPF for breakfast foods. For more information, visit http://www.dpado.org

Tickets are $10 and can be bought at the Greylock Dining Hall entrance. Community members are welcome.
