BCC Players to Perform ‘Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead’ - October 30, 2007
The BCC Players will perform “Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead” on Nov. 15, 16 & 17 at 7:30pm; and Nov. 18 at 2:30pm in the Robert Boland Theatre at Berkshire Community College.
“Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead” is the wildly comic retelling of Shakespeare's immortal “Hamlet” as told through the eyes of internationally known playwright Tom Stoppard.
The play is an absurdist-like farce, focusing on the point of view of two of its most insignificant characters. In Shakespeare's play, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are minor characters and are little more than plot devices. They are school chums summoned by King Claudius to probe Hamlet's bizarre behavior at court and then ordered to escort Hamlet to England where they ultimately meet their demise. In Stoppard's hands, they become the major characters while Hamlet becomes a mere plot device. Thus, Stoppard's wildly comic play becomes the story of two ordinary men caught up in events they cannot understand or control.
Cast members include Johanne Kesten, J.T. Fuhrman, Stephanie Watroba, Colin Sykes, Laura Clark, Mark Kenyon, Jessica Goodchild, Sean Winters, Emily Osthoff, Kimberly Gritman, Alex Cordero, Corey Doucette, Jess Carty, Jake Gold, Christopher Dellea, and Gary Cannon. Christopher Gregory serves as the set and lighting designer.
