Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts will bring the work of more than 40 "virtual friends" of MCLA Gallery 51's MySpace page to the downtown beginning Nov. 29 through Jan. 27, 2008.
An opening reception for "The MySpace Show" will be held Thursday, Nov. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m., in MCLA Gallery 51. The event is free and open to the public.
In addition to the physical show, the gallery will coordinate elements of a "virtual show" that will allow those who cannot come to the gallery in person to experience the exhibit online. As part of the virtual show, the gallery will post images of all of the work included in the exhibit to its MySpace page and encourage its friends to comment.
The gallery also will take images and video during the opening of the show and post them to the gallery's MySpace profile.
Once the physical show is up and running, the gallery will coordinate an online, collaborative art piece made by the artists who are MCLA Gallery 51's friends on MySpace. This art piece should be completed by the New Year and will be on display at MCLA Gallery 51 during January 2008.
Gallery manager Sean Riley said participating artists will include those from throughout the world, including Brazil, France, Germany and Portugal.
"What I find most interesting about this exhibit is that it is making virtual relationships real," Riley said. "The artists in this exhibition are no longer just our virtual friends," they have become participants and real-life friends of the gallery."
MCLA Gallery 51 at 51 Main St. is open daily, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, 413-664-8718, www.mcla.edu/Gallery51 or www.myspace.com/mcla_gallery51 .

Sanford, Maine, Edges SteepleCats in Season Opener
By Stephen DravisiBerkshires.com Sports
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The SteepleCats Sunday started their 2026 season the way they ended their 2025 campaign: with a narrow loss to the Sanford Mainers.
Sanford, which won a best-of-three playoff series against North Adams last August, scored four runs on 14 hits to earn a 4-2 win at Joe Wolfe Field.
The Mainers broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run rally in the third inning, and four Sanford pitchers combined to collect 11 strikeouts as the visitors improved to 2-1 this summer.
North Adams, which saw its planned road opener rained out on Saturday, got to open the season in front of its home fans.
And those fans saw a strong performance from the North Adams pitching staff, which, despite allowing 14 hits, including five doubles, gave up just three earned runs.
“I like the grit,” SteepleCats coach Mike Gladu said of his team’s Game 1 performance. “I thought the pitchers performed pretty well. We had a couple of situations where we definitely should have gotten some runs in and didn’t get that hit.
“And there were a couple of plays with a little rust. Certainly, the ball that was hit over [Evan] Meier’s in left field, he just mistracked that one. And the extra run they scored in the eighth, the kid wasn’t going to go [from third on a fly ball], we made a throw and nobody could stop it.
