More Snow
The Berkshires received several inches of snow this morning, but not enough to close schools, unlike yesterday's sleety mess. Temperatures will drop into the 20s this afternoon. A few more snow showers are expected through the weekend. |

Pittsfield Slates Community Kwanzaa Celebration - December 26, 2007
The second annual free community Kwanzaa celebration, organized by the Women of Color Giving Circle of the Berkshires, an affiliate of the Women's Fund of Western Massachusetts, and cosponsored by the City of Pittsfield Office of Cultural Development, will be held Thursday, December 27, from 6pm to 9pm.
The event is free and open to the public. All are welcomed. Last year’s celebration attracted over three hundred attendees, including families, elders, and young people from all walks of life. The event will be held at the Masonic Hall at 116 South Street, across the street from the Colonial Theatre in downtown Pittsfield.
Kwanzaa is a Pan-African cultural holiday that is held from December 26 trough January 1. Named for a Swahili word meaning “first fruits,” the holiday celebrates values that strengthen our families and communities. The second day, December 27, is dedicated to Kujichagulia (Self-Determination) and is a day in which the focus is on defining, naming, creating and speaking for ourselves as a community.
The event includes community refreshments, live performances by the Youth Alive Step Dance & Bucket Drumming Group, Focus is Our Children modern dance troupe, the Praise Dancers, gospel singer and poetry by Nakeida Bethel-Smith. There will also be a traditional Kwanzaa ceremony highlighting principles of family and community values.
