Art History, Fashion, and Food at NBCA
North Adams - Northern Berkshire Creative Arts, the area’s only community arts school, is offering a variety of children and adult classes and workshops for its Winter 2008 session, including Hands-On Art History, held at the Clark, and a three part Introduction to the World of Fashion Design, co-sponsored by The Browns.Hands on Art History will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 29 to February 14, 3pm to 5pm.
Ten- to thirteen-year-olds will experience art history through projects inspired by stone age cave line drawings, Byzantium mosaics, Renaissance murals, and the abstraction of cubist paintings. Parents are welcome to sign up for the class with their child. Classes are held at the Clark and all materials are included in class fee.
Introduction to Fashion Design, a three part series co-sponsored by The Browns, will start with an overview of the world of fashion design and basic techniques and end with a finished garment on display in the windows of The Browns. Each session will feature a field trip to The Browns for a class with co-owner Mikki Brown. Session one focuses on textiles and construction and will be held on Tuesdays, 6pm to 8pm, February 12 through April 8.
Adult classes include Food Presentation and Photography with Chef Omar Montoya of Café Latino, Tuesdays, 6pm to 8pm, February 12 through March 18. This class will feature basic preparation, plating, styling, and photography techniques necessary for sumptuous presentation and photographs of your own culinary creations. Class will be held at Café Latino, located on the Mass Moca campus. Adults can also explore Botanical Illustration, Silk Painting, and Every Picture Tells a Story.
After-school programs for ages 5-9 begin the week of February 11 and offerings range from Play it Again: Performance Art and 3D Masterpieces: Basic Sculpture to Think Funny: Cartooning and Open Studio. Middleschoolers can choose from Cartooning, Printmaking, Jewelry, and Open Studio. Siblings receive a 50% discount with one full tuition.
