WTBR 89.7 Presents The Dollyrots & Suffrajett - January 15, 2008
Berkshire County’s only rock station, WTBR-FM 89.7 Pittsfield, is proud to present The 2008 Winter Formal starring national touring acts The Dollyrots and Suffrajett along with locals The Poncherellos, Reason 837 and Keri & Kaya. The all-ages event is taking place on Monday February 18 at the ITAM 96 Waubeek Road in Pittsfield. The concert will mark the The Dollyrots second trip to the Berkshires in support of their Blackheart Records debut release Because I’m Awesome featuring the title cut which has appeared (along with the band) in a nationally-aired commercial for Khol’s department stores.
The 30-second and 60-second spots featured The Dollyrots watching a band made up of kids performing their signature track. Kohl’s even produced a special Because I’m Awesome t-shirt line in honor of the television spot. The Dollyrots have also been heavily featured locally on the WTBR airwaves and in the Albany, NY market on WFLY-92. Fans of the ABC Family program Greek will also recognize The Dollyrots as the show has featured their music regularly. Because I’m Awesome is a solid power-pop album from start to finish making it’s 13-tracks a fine addition to Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records catalogue. Other noteworthy songs are My Best Friend’s Hot, Cat Callin’, Out of LA and the band’s stab at political frustration A Desperate SOS. Because I’m Awesome is available locally at select retailers and at the iTunes on-line store. Joining The Dollyrots will be Chicago-by-way-of-NYC-based Suffrajett who credit “the blood stained streets of Chicago and the ashes of dreams of New York City” as major musical influences. Suffrajett are touring in support of their latest release on Cobra Music entitled Black Glitter, which is completely indicative of their sound. The quartet has channeled the “rock gods” and will leave instruments shuddering at the thought of being played with such determination and intensity. Black Glitter is available at select stores and at the iTunes on-line store. The 2008 Winter Formal will also feature three fine local opening acts. The Poncherellos recently got back together after a ten-year hiatus and have written more songs that fit right in with their classics from the early 1990s, a full-length release is due this year. Reason 837, a pop-punk band based in Adams, recently completed recording songs for their debut album at RQR Studios. The acoustic duo, Keri & Kaya, are newcomers to the Berkshire County music scene and already sound like old pros live. The girls recently opened the gothic-industrial Paint It Black evening in Lenox and are finishing production on their debut album. The 2008 Winter Formal (itself, a tongue-in-cheek name) will be held Monday February 18th, 2008 in the ballroom at the iTAM Lodge at 96 Waubeek Road in Pittsfield. Formal wear is optional, but encouraged. This is an all-ages event and doors will open at 6:30 pm. Advance tickets are $10.00 and go on sale beginning January 25th. They will also be available at the door for $12.00 on the day of the show. Tickets will also be available in advance on-line and from each of the local bands.
