More Snow

The Berkshires received several inches of snow this morning, but not enough to close schools, unlike yesterday's sleety mess. Temperatures will drop into the 20s this afternoon. A few more snow showers are expected through the weekend.

North Adams Regional Hospital went smoke-free Monday — so did all its sister sites, from Sweet Brook to Northern Berkshire Family Practice to the Women's Exchange. No ashtrays, no smoking: No butts about it.

Victor Hill will perform at the Clark

- January 28, 2008

Williamstown - Victor Hill will perform works for harpsichord at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute on Sunday, February 10, at 3 pm. The program includes three Suites by George Frideric Handel, one of which contains the set of variations that became known a century after Handel's death as "The Harmonious Blacksmith." Hill will also perform two Sonatas of Franz Joseph Haydn. The performance is free.

Hill is the Thomas T. Read Professor of Mathematics Emeritus at Williams and the founder and director of Griffin Hall Concerts, co-sponsor of the recital along with the Clark. He studied harpsichord in Amsterdam with Gustav Leonhardt and has played more than 900 concerts throughout the United States and in Europe. He plays the two-keyboard instrument custom-built for him in 1997 by Richard Kingston of Asheville, NC.

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August). Admission is free November 1 through May 31. Admission June 1 through October 31 is $12.50 for adults, free for children 18 and younger, members, and students with valid ID. For more information, call 413-458-2303 or visit www.clarkart.edu.
