News & Notes: Pittsfield to Get New Ladder TruckBy Larry Kratka - February 21, 2008 Berkshire News Network
Pittsfield Lands Grant for Fire Truck
The Pittsfield Fire Department has been awarded a $750,000 federal Homeland Security grant that will enable it to purchase a new ladder truck. Under the agreement with Homeland Security, the city will cover 10 percent of the cost of the truck.
The new truck will feature a 95-foot ladder tower with duel monitors, pump and tank. It will be added to the department's replacement list of fire vehicles that are all at least 14 years old. The city's current ladder truck is 34 years old.
Pittsfield Schools Set Kindergarten Registration
Pittsfield public elementary schools will be holding kindergarten registration next week. School Department officials said all children entering kindergarten in September must be 5 years old by Dec. 1, 2008, and parents or guardians must bring proof of address and the child's birth certificate plus immunization records.
All six elementary schools in Pittsfield will be holding registration but it is suggested that parents call ahead and find out what the hours and days are for the school their child will be attending. Information about district lines for particular schools is featured www.pittsfield.net or can call the deputy superintendent's office at 413-499-9510.
