Pittsfield Sets Session on CDBG Grants - February 25, 2008
PITTSFIELD – The city's Department of Community Development has scheduled public session for preparing its 2009 annual action plan on Wednesday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m.
Its purpose is to obtain suggestions on how the city’s federal Community Development Block Grant funds should be used to improve the quality of life in the community.
The session will be held at Morningside Community School at 100 Burbank St. following the regularly scheduled West Side and Morningside Neighborhood Initiative steering committee meetings. The public is encouraged to attend the committee meetings that will be held at 6:30 p.m.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requires that the city prepare a consolidated action plan each year. Funded projects are required to benefit low- and moderate-income people or to eliminate slums and blight.
All who attend will be given the opportunity to speak on what community issues are important to them, such as housing, public facilities, job opportunities, crime, drug and alcohol abuse, child care, domestic violence, handicapped services and elderly services.
The action plan will be available in draft form in mid-April for the public to review and comment. It will also undergo a formal adoption process, including a formal public hearing that will be publicly advertised. The plan will be completed and approved by the middle of May and is due at HUD shortly thereafter.
Those unable to attend the public input session can send written comments to the Pittsfield Department of Community Development, City Hall, 70 Allen St., Room 205, Pittsfield, MA or call 413-499-9368 or by TTY at 413-499-9340. Those with special needs should contact the department; every effort will be made to accommodate requests. |
