A applications are now available for the 2008 Young Women in Public Affairs Award

The Zonta Club of Berkshire County announces that applications are now available for the 2008 Young Women in Public Affairs Award. The award of $500 will  be granted based on applicants’ responses to essay questions asking them to reflect on their lives, their commitment to the communities in which they live, and the role models that have inspired them to become involved in their community or in a specific prospective career.

The goal of the Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public and political life by recognizing a young woman’s commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women. The Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs program looks to the young women of today for the leaders of tomorrow Applications can be requested by contacting Karen Norton, (413)281-3989, or knorton2@hotmail.com. 

Applications must be received by March 15, 2008. Applicants must be pre-college young women, aged 16-20. The Berkshire County winner will qualify for the District competition for another cash award, and will be judged among club winners from throughout the Northeast and Canadian Atlantic Provinces. District winners compete for five International awards of $1,500.

The Zonta Club of Berkshire County is a member of Zonta International, a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women. The Young Women in Public Affairs Award is one of many programs for women and girls sponsored by Zonta  International. The Award is funded by voluntary contributions to the Zonta International Foundation.
