Ski Race to Benefit Humane Society - March 03, 2008
PITTSFIELD - Bousquet Ski Area hold a ski race to benefit the Berkshire Humane Society on Sunday, March 9, beginning at 10 a.m.
There will be one-run giant slalom on Grand Slalom, from top to bottom. It is open to all ages; skis, snowboards and telemark skis will be allowed. Medals will be given to the winners. The cost is $25 and registration begins at 8 the morning of the race.
Spectators can watch the contestants from a live video feed in the lounge or hike up and watch the race. All proceeds will go to the care and feeding of the homeless animals at the Berkshire Humane Society. The race is named after Sasha, Bousquet's Samoyed mascot.
Helping animals and people since 1992, the Humane Society offers free educational programs for area schoolchildren and a pet-food bank for economically distressed pet owners, and also works with the Elizabeth Freeman Center to provide foster care for the pets of women in crisis.
BHS receives no public funding and relies on memberships and donations. In 2007, it placed 784 homeless animals into forever homes. The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 to 4, Thursday evenings 5 to 8, and Sundays 1 to 4. The shelter closes at noon on the last Wednesday of each month for staff meetings.
