MIDDLETOWN, CT – Williams women's lacrosse (2-5,1-4 NESCAC) lost 9-8 to NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan (5-3, 2-2 NESCAC) on the Cardinals home field. The Ephs came out strong, with juniors Julia Nawrocki and Britt Spackman scoring a goal a piece in the first three minutes of play. Wesleyan quickly responded with a pair of goals to tie the game, and the Ephs pulled back to lead 4-3 at the half with goals from sophomore Whitney Thayer and Tina Nawrocki.

A second goal from Spackman at 28:28 boosted the Ephs lead to 5-3. Wesleyan freshman Jess Chukwu's second goal of the game tied the contest at 5-5. Williams took the lead again with a goal from Tina Nawrocki, but two more goals from Chukwu gave the Cardinals the advantage for the first time at 17:10. The Ephs then pulled ahead 8-7 with goals from first year Anne Marie Burke and Julia Nawrocki. With goals from Sarah Orkin and Allie Lynch in the last 10 minutes of play, the Cardinals sealed the victory. Williams fought back in the last minute of play after junior Lizzie Burns caused Wesleyan to turn the ball over, but the Ephs two shots went wide. Eph head coach Chris Mason commented that the Ephs "needed to play more dynamically on and off the ball.

Our defense played all right but we needed to score more." Williams freshman goaltender Julia Schreiber made 5 saves in the contest, and Wesleyan goalie Rachel Stemerman turned aside 8 shots by the Ephs to collect the win. Julia Nawrocki, Tina Nawrocki, and Britt Spackman led the Eph attack with two goals each, and Spackman added two assists. Wesleyan's Jess Chukwu led the Cardinals with four goals and one assist. The Ephs will next host archrival Amherst College at 1:00pm Saturday April, 12th.

Dalton Day Returns This Saturday

By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff
DALTON, Mass. — The town's popular Dalton Day festival is returning this weekend after a year's hiatus.

The event will kick off this Saturday at 11 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. in the field in front of the Senior Center.

The community celebration was established in 2023 by the Cultural Council in an effort to increase resident participation at town meetings while also showcasing the area's welcoming, diverse, artistic and sporty atmosphere. In 2024, the event brought together 300 residents.

"The primary mission of Dalton Day is to foster a strong sense of community, build civic pride, and bring residents together through a shared celebration of local culture, music, and food," said Jeannie Ingram, Select Board member and cultural council chair, and Lori Venezia, executive assistant to the town manager.

The event provides an accessible and free platform for "civic education, community bonding, and supporting local businesses, artisans, makers, and culture more broadly," they said.

The festival strengthens the fabric of the town both civically and economically by connecting grassroots organizations with residents, fostering a shared sense of belonging, and providing free, family-friendly entertainment.

It also serves as an opportunity for community members to meet with local officials and a couple of state officials. State Sen. Paul Mark and state Rep. Leigh Davis will be coming from Beacon Hill to speak at the event.
