The Acting Company’s The Tempest plays at Mahaiwe

- April 11, 2008

One performance only! The Acting Company’s The Tempest plays on Sunday, April 20 at 3pm at The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington.  Monsters, spirits, villains, heroes, romance and comedy — Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” covers them all. And the touring production by The Acting Company revels in the fantasy and sheer fun of it all! The Tempest has something for everyone: comedy, revenge, attempted murder and a love story, all controlled by a philosopher/magician. This fully staged production plays out like today’s reality shows, against the backdrop of groups of island castaways. Tickets available today through The Mahaiwe Box Office: 413-528-0100.

“Characters leapt out of various stereotypes with a contagious joie de vivre, aided by some gorgeous costumes.” — Washington State News Tribune

The Tempest is an excellent introduction to Shakespeare for young and new theatergoers and a reminder of Shakespeare’s most beautiful use of language for those more seasoned. With the presentation of Shakespeare's The Tempest, The Acting Company will continue its 35-year tradition of bringing touring classical productions, talented young actors and teaching artists into communities across America. A Post-Show talk will create insightful discussion between the actors and audience, and is open to all ticket holders.

Kevin Kline, Patti LuPone, Jesse L. Martin, Frances Conroy, David Ogden Stiers, Jeffrey Wright and Rainn Wilson are but a handful of actors whose careers have been developed by The Acting Company. Honored by the Tony Awards for Excellence in Theater, the Company has won the Obie, Audelco, Citibank’s Excellence in Education and Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards. Since its founding by the legendary John Houseman and Margot Harley in 1972, The Acting Company has performed 129 productions touring to 48 states and ten foreign countries. See for yourself what makes The Acting Company – winner of a TONY Award for Excellence in Theater the most respected and praised touring repertory theater in America!

“A sparkling production and superbly assured cast.” – News Tribune, Tacoma
