WILLIAMSTOWN – Williams women’s lacrosse (3-6, 1-5 NESCAC) defeated the Endicott Gulls (8-5) at home with a final score of 16-10.

Senior Allison Murray led the Ephs offense with seven goals, while senior Sarah Adkins was also a strong contributor with five assists. Emily Judd and Valerie Feldman scored four and three goals respectively for the Gulls.

Murray and sophomore Tina Nawrocki came out strong for the Williams scoring two goals each in the first ten minutes of the game. Endicott responded with two goals of their own before Murray scored her third goal off a pass from Adkins. Judd closed the Gulls scoring for the half at 12:50 with a free position shot, while Britt Spackman, Alice Nelson, Whitney Thayer, and Sara du Pont each netted a goal for the Ephs to end the half with a 9-3 lead.

Endicott put the pressure on the Ephs to start the second half with Judd scoring at 27:27. Du Pont and Murray each netted another goal for the Ephs and sophomore Anne Marie Burke scored a diving goal off a pass from Adkins. However Endicott fought back, scoring six more goals to the Ephs three in the last 20 minutes of the game. Murray scored two of the last three for Williams while Thayer sealed the victory off a pass from du Pont with 16 seconds left on the clock.

The goal keeping was strong for both teams, with freshman Julia Schreiber making 11 saves for the Ephs and Molly Hammel turning aside 7 attempts for the Gulls.

Williams domination of draw controls also contributed to the victory. The Ephs won 22 draws compared to Endicott’s 6. Ephs’ Whitney Thayer was particularly successful, capturing 7.

Williams head coach Chris Mason was pleased with her team’s play. “We were excited about the last minute game as we only scheduled it last Thursday,” said Mason. “We knew they were a good team because they beat MIT and Connecticut College earlier in the season, but we had great pressure. It was good to see the intensity of practice brought into the game.”

Mason was also particularly pleased with Schreiber’s goal keeping and Murray’s offensive play: “Schreiber played great, and it was a great day for Allison Murray.”

The Ephs next contest is Thursday April, 17th at 7:00pm against Skidmore College on Lamb field.

Companion Corner: Lucy at Second Chance Animal Shelter

By Breanna SteeleiBerkshires Staff

ARLINGTON, Vt. — There is an excited and energetic pup looking for her new family.

iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home.

Lucy is an 18-month-old heeler/terrier mix with energy to spare. She has been at the Second Chance Animal Shelter for about a month.

Lead canine care technician Alaura Lasher introduced us to her.

"She is a very energetic girl. She loves to play, and as you can see, she came to us from animal control," she said.

Lucy was not in a great situation before coming to the shelter and they are still trying to learn more about her.

"They had seized her from a pretty neglectful situation. She was actually technically abandoned. She just came to us this last month, so she's still showing us all of her energy she has," Lasher said.

Lucy is able to go home with a dog-savvy cat and older children as she can be a bit jumpy with her bounds of energy.

"The perfect home for her is one that is able to give her a ton of attention and a ton of time playing, she loves her time outside," said Lasher. "She can run forever and not get tired. She can possibly live with another dog who is used to more of a pushy play style. She can be a little pushy when she plays, just because she's so hyper."

Since she is young, she is still learning and training with the staff and might need more with someone who takes her home.

"To the best of our knowledge, she's just a healthy young girl, because she's only a year and a half old, she still got a little bit of learning and training that she could use."

But Lucy is always happy to see anyone and immediately wants to play and say hi. Her endless energy makes her a great companion to play outside with and then hang out after a long day of fun.

"She's just a super sweet girl again. She'll need some help with the training, but as long as you've got time to burn out her energy, she'll make a great family dog," she said.

If you think Lucy might be the girl for you, reach out to Second Chance Animal Shelter and learn more about her on their website.
