The Lenox Library will host a free art class

- April 18, 2008

Lenox - The Lenox Library will host a free art class, “The Art of Pastel Workshop, The da Vinci Mode” on Saturday, May 3, 2008 from 10:00am to noon in the Welles Gallery of the Lenox Library at 18 Main Street. The class will be offered by award-winning pastel artist, Gregory Maichack, of Holyoke, Massachusetts, who teaches at many regional colleges, schools, museums, libraries, and senior centers. His work has shown in many national juried shows throughout the country, and has been awarded recognition by numerous art organizations.

Mr. Maichack will give participants an engaging hands-on demo/lesson of basic and advanced pastel painting techniques. No experience is required.  Participants will try their hand at starting a pastel painting. They will be encouraged to freely experiment with hundreds of professional grade hard and soft pastels, and professional pastel paper. All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own pastels if you prefer. Please bring a simple image or photo to work from, whether landscape, still-life, or portraiture.

The instructor, a Massachusetts Gold Star Program nominee, will provide individual instruction in the essentials of pastel painting. He will also display his original pastel artwork to illustrate techniques for achieving luminous color and volume, structuring an engaging composition, and creating impact.

The workshop is designed for adults and children of 14 or older if accompanied by an adult. Admission to the workshop is free, but reservations are suggested as seating is limited and may fill quickly. To pre-register, contact Jenny Rae at the Lenox Library at 413-637-2630 or jrae@lenoxlib.org .

For further information about the artist and the workshop, go to www.gregorymaichack.com/workshops

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Lenox Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, which has awarded Mr. Maichack numerous grants
