'The Lorax' Talk Designed for Adults
WILLIAMSTOWN — The Milne Public Library present a discussion of "The Lorax" on Wednesday, April 23, at 7 p.m. at the library in recognition of Earth Day.The children's book, written by Dr. Seuss and first published in 1971, chronicles the plight of the environment and the Lorax (a "mossy, bossy" manlike creature), who speaks for the trees against the greedy Once-ler.
The book is commonly recognized as a fable concerning an industrialized society, and has become a popular metaphor for those concerned about the human impact on the environment. A slide lecture will be followed by a reading of the book by Robert Campanile, who will present the adult scholar and then the "unruly acting-out" reader of the classic book.
"The Lorax" is the first of three books by Dr. Seuss that the library will present. Next month, in honor of Memorial Day, "The Butter Battle Book" will be discussed.
The program is free and, for questions, contact Pat McLeod, library director at 413-458-5369 or pmcleod@williamstown.net.
