New BEDC Leader to Speak at Chamber Breakfast

- April 23, 2008

PITTSFIELD — David Rooney, the new president of the Berkshire Economic Development Corp., will be the main speaker at this month's Berkshire Chamber of Commerce's Good News Business Salute on Wednesday, April 30.

The breakfast event, sponsored by Pittsfield Cooperative Bank, will be held at the Crowne Plaza from 7:45 to  9. The cost is $20 for chamber members and $28 for non-members, and includes a breakfast buffet.

The chamber will salute five local companies and organizations for their "good news": Berkshire Visitors Bureau, Carr Hardware & Supply, Country Club of Pittsfield and Special Olympics of Western Massachusetts. There will also be special community recognition for the Berkshire Wireless Learning Initiative.

Rooney comes to the BEDC from the New York capital region's Center for Economic Growth, where he directed regional development, public affairs, marketing and membership for the 300-member private, not-for-profit economic development group. He will discuss his experience with the emerging New York tech valley region and provide insight on many of the BEDC initiatives and objectives he intends to pursue.

June Roy-Martin, manager of human resources, communications and business development for Quality Printing, will be master of ceremonies. Roy-Martin is affiliated with a variety of community organizations including the Berkshire Business & Professional Women, the Berkshire Compact for Higher Learning, the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce, the Berkshire Visitors Bureau, and Women Helping Empower our Neighborhoods.
