More Snow
The Berkshires received several inches of snow this morning, but not enough to close schools, unlike yesterday's sleety mess. Temperatures will drop into the 20s this afternoon. A few more snow showers are expected through the weekend.
We have reports that the roads are very slippery to take care in the evening commute. |

Arlington Man Arraigned in Alleged Parental KidnappingStaff reports - May 01, 2008 iBerkshires
 | | Lucas Whalen | ARLINGTON — A father accused of threatening to shoot his infant son and others and then himself was arraigned Thursday in Cambridge District Court.
Police had issued an AMBER Alert after Michael Whalen, 42, threatened to harm anyone attempting to take away 6-month-old Lucas Whalen.
Whalen and the boy's mother, Danielle Boyle, 24, allegedly abducted the boy after a relative was given temporary custody, according to The Boston Globe.
Lucas was found with his mother just hours after the America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response Alert was initiated. Police said Whalen was taken into custody by a SWAT team early Thursday morning after his rental car was spotted at Burlington hotel.
Whalen has a long criminal record dating back to 1985; two children had already been taken from the couple by the Department of Social Services.
He pleaded not guilty to parental kidnapping, threats, and receiving stolen property over $250 and was ordered held on $25,000 cash bail, reported The Globe. Boyle has not been charged.
Lucas is in the custody of one of his mother's relatives.
Below: Updated story that ran on April 30, 2008.
ARLINGTON — Police deactivated the AMBER Alert issued for 6-month-old Lucas Whalen after his mother, Danielle Boyle, brought the child to the Arlington Police Department shortly before 8 p.m.
Lucas did not appear to have any injuries but was transported to a local hospital for examination. Police are still searching for Lucas' father, 42-year-old Michael Whalen. He is described as a white male 42 years of age, 5-foot-9, 180 pounds, with dirty blond hair, blue eyes and tattoos.
Whalen and Boyle, 24, lost parental custody of the boy. Police say they refused to release the infant to a temporary custodian on Tuesday.
Police issued an AMBER Alert today based on statements and threats made by Whalen, which led police to believe Lucas was in danger and his safety at risk.
Whalen is believed to be traveling in a dark gray 2007 Ford 500, bearing Massachusetts registration 49RF83. The vehicle is a rental.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the Arlington Police Department at 781-643-1212. Since the America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response Alert program's inception in Massachusetts five years ago, there have been 14 AMBER Alert activations seeking a total of 19 abducted children. All 19 were recovered.
