BCC to Offer Workshops at South County Center

Berkshire Community College is offering the following workshops at its South County Center in Great Barrington this summer.

“Financial Planning” (WKS 368) gives participants a comprehensive look at practical ways to retire comfortably, educate children, reduce taxes, and pass their estate to heirs. This 3-session class meets Wednesday evening, June 4 through June 18, from 5:30 to 7:30.

“Basics of the Green/Solar Home” (WKS 9702), a new course, is designed for anyone thinking of building or renovating, or would like to learn the basics of how their home stays warm and cool, and how to improve it. Discussion covers some of the basics of energy realities, simple physics, construction types, infiltration and insulation, and active and passive solar. Pros and cons, and the sustainability of various materials are also covered. Classes meet Tuesday evening, June 17 through July 29, from 6:30 to 8.

“Hand Quilting” (WKS 258), a progression of needlecraft skills, experiments with shape, color and design. Students make a quilted six-block wall hanging composed of various chosen patterns. Topics include a review of sewing stitches, arranging color, block cutting and assembly, sandwiching layers, and quilting stitches. Classes meet Tuesday, June 24 through Aug. 26, from 10 to 12:30.
