NORTH ADAMS – The North Adams SteepleCats are excited to announce that they will have four representatives on the South Division team in Sunday’s 2008 NECBL All-Star Game.

Tim Boyce, John Malloy, Kevin Carby and Paul Hoilman will make up the SteepleCats contingent that will be heading to Torrington on June 20.

Boyce will start the game on the mound for the South and has been lights out all season long for North Adams. He has already tied the SteepleCats single season team record and leads all Southern Division pitchers with five wins. His 52 strikeouts lead the NECBL while he has walked just nine on the season in 44 innings. Overall Tim is 5-1 on the year with a microscopic 1.02 ERA.

Malloy will be the starting centerfielder for the Southern Division. Currently riding a 14-game hitting streak, he is batting .326 with eight RBI. Effective in getting on base out of the leadoff spot, Malloy has walked 14 times, carrying a .423 on-base percentage and has reached base safely in every game he has played this season. Not to be outshadowed is his defense as the 2007 Freshman All-American leads the NECBL with seven outfield assists in just 24 games.

Hoilman has been an anchor for North Adams in the cleanup spot in the order all season and has cashed in on run producing opportunities presented to him when the top of the order gets on as he is tied for the league lead with 25 RBI. The RBI total also put him in fifth place on the SteepleCats single season list with 14 games to go, just seven behind Seth Pietsch who has held the record since the team’s initial 2002 campaign. Paul will be a reserve infielder for the South.

Also a reserve infielder, Carby is second in the league with 14 stolen bases and is amongst the league leaders with three triples. His 14th steal of the season last night set the North Adams single season stolen base record, passing Chris Cates and Mike Wagner. He has been particularly good in the clutch for the SteepleCats, hitting .326 with runners in scoring position and is 4-for-5 in bases loaded situations.

The SteepleCats are currently riding a six-game winning streak and head out on the road for two key games against Keene on Tuesday and division rival Newport on Wednesday. Tuesday’s game starts at 7:00 p.m. with Wednesday having a 6:35 first pitch. You can catch all the action on the team’s website at www.steeplecats.com and by following the Teamline link.

Sanford, Maine, Edges SteepleCats in Season Opener

By Stephen DravisiBerkshires.com Sports
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The SteepleCats Sunday started their 2026 season the way they ended their 2025 campaign: with a narrow loss to the Sanford Mainers.

Sanford, which won a best-of-three playoff series against North Adams last August, scored four runs on 14 hits to earn a 4-2 win at Joe Wolfe Field.

The Mainers broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run rally in the third inning, and four Sanford pitchers combined to collect 11 strikeouts as the visitors improved to 2-1 this summer.

North Adams, which saw its planned road opener rained out on Saturday, got to open the season in front of its home fans.

And those fans saw a strong performance from the North Adams pitching staff, which, despite allowing 14 hits, including five doubles, gave up just three earned runs.

“I like the grit,” SteepleCats coach Mike Gladu said of his team’s Game 1 performance. “I thought the pitchers performed pretty well. We had a couple of situations where we definitely should have gotten some runs in and didn’t get that hit.

“And there were a couple of plays with a little rust. Certainly, the ball that was hit over [Evan] Meier’s in left field, he just mistracked that one. And the extra run they scored in the eighth, the kid wasn’t going to go [from third on a fly ball], we made a throw and nobody could stop it.
