More Snow

The Berkshires received several inches of snow this morning, but not enough to close schools, unlike yesterday's sleety mess. Temperatures will drop into the 20s this afternoon. A few more snow showers are expected through the weekend.

We have reports that the roads are very slippery to take care in the evening commute.

Shade Murder Case Moves to Superior Court

Staff reports - August 29, 2008
iBerkshires

PITTSFIELD — A North Adams man was arraigned in Berkshire Superior Court on Thursday in the murder of his wife, Julie Burdick Shade, last month.

Eugene A. Shade II, 34, pleaded not guilty to one count of murder and one count of assualt and battery by means of dangerous weapon before Judge Daniel Ford.

Julie Shade, 22, died in the early hours of July 30 at Berkshire Medical Center from injuries she allegedly received at the hands of her husband on July 22 at their Edgewood Avenue home in North Adams.

Ford ordered Eugene Shade continue to be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction without bail. Shade had previously been arraigned on a murder charge in Northern Berkshire District Court the day his wife died.

He has been in jail since being arrested for allegedly strangling his wife during a domestic abuse. Julie Shade never recovered and was listed in critical condition until her death eight days later.

The Shades have two daughters, ages 1 and 3.

The investigation was conducted by members of the North Adams Police Department and state police detectives assigned to the district attorney's office.

Those poor baby girls...not only losing their mother, but essentially losing their father as well all because of a selfish fit of rage. What is wrong with our society these days? I feel for those children. I can't imagine telling my 3 year old he would never see his mother again...

What has happened to the children? Their innocence tainted with such devastation at such young ages.
