Williams College volleyball team went 1-1 in Day 2

- September 08, 2008

MIDDLETOWN, CT-  The Williams College volleyball team (1-2) went 1-1 in Day 2 of the NESCAC/NEWMAC challenge hosted by Wesleyan. The Ephs clinched their first victory of the season against Coast Guard 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-28) in the morning but were defeated 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-22) by Wellesley in the second match.

“Today we went out with some modified lineups as some of our players get healthy,” said head coach Fran Vandermeer. “However, we have to take care of the ball no matter who is setting for us.”

In the morning match against Coast Guard, the setting was done primarily by juniors Alisha Cahlan (11 assists, 4 kills) and Whitney Hitchcock (9 assists).  Other notable stats for the Ephs were posted by junior Andrea Scioscia (9 digs), and sophomores Eleanor Levine (12 digs, 4 blocks) and Nicole Ballon-Landa (8 kills, 3 blocks).

Against Wellesley, the Ephs were led by junior Chelsea Kubal (12 digs), Scioscia (12 digs), and Ballon-Landa (9 kills, 3 blocks).

The Ephs now look to move forward Tuesday, September 9 with their home and conference opener against Hamilton at 7PM.
