Benefit Pasta Night at Zucco’s Restaurant For the Berkshire Humane Society

Pittsfield - The third annual Pasta Night to benefit the Berkshire Humane Society will be held at Zuccos Restaurant, formerly known as Pete and Chris’s Restaurant, on Tuesday September 23rd from 5 until 8pm at 451 Dalton Avenue in Pittsfield. The price is $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for Children under 12 years of age.

Dinner includes a choice of Spaghetti or Ziti with (2) Meatballs, (2) sweet or Hot Sausage or a Combination, plus bread and butter. All proceeds from the dinner event will go to benefit the homeless animals of the Berkshire Humane Society and to help support community programs like free humane education presentations to area school children, foster care programs for clients of the Elizabeth Freeman Woman’s shelter and the Pet Food Bank for economically distressed pet owners.

In addition to the dinner, there will be Lucky Dog raffle tickets, for a $1,000 first prize to be drawn on November 16rd at the annual Berkshire Humane Society Holiday Auction & Brunch. There will also be Puerto Rico Trip raffle tickets and 50 -50 raffles that evening. The Berkshire Humane Society is an open admission shelter, providing refuge for homeless animals in Berkshire County, free educational programs for local school children, a pet-food bank for economically distressed pet owners, and assistance for The Elizabeth Freeman Center in providing women with a safe haven for their pets during crisis. BHS receives no public funding and relies and memberships and donations to continue with its mission of “Helping Animals and People Since 1992”. Striking Out Cancer in Berkshires Holds Sunday Party Before June 27 Games

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Striking out Cancer in the Berkshires has been bringing smiles for half a decade.
 
This year, it also is bringing Smiley.
 
A day of community baseball and softball games that act as a fund-raiser for the Jimmy Fund is the brainchild of Joe DiCicco, who has expanded the event’s footprint over the years and seen a steady growth in money raised as a result.
 
This year’s games are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on June 27 on Buddy Pellerin Field at Clapp Park.
 
But the festivities begin this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Sideline Saloon on Fenn Street, where DiCicco invites families to come down, free of charge, to take photos with a Boston Red Sox World Series Trophy and meet Boston mascot Wally the Green Monster and Smiley, the mascot of the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox.
 
“It’s just a little way to give back to the community to start the week,” DiCicco said. “Last year, we had the trophy for the first time, and they want to bring it back, so that’s a good thing. Wally is different, and so is Smiley.”
 
What has not changed is DiCicco’s dedication to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund, inspired by Einar Gustafson, a child who beat cancer with the help of Dr. Sidney Farber in 1948 and shared his story with the world under the name Jimmy to protect his anonymity.
