Barrington Stage Announces 2008 Playwright Mentoring Project Groups - September 18, 2008
PITTSFIELD – Barrington Stage Company announces the expansion of its National Award-Winning Playwright Mentoring Project (PMP) to North Adams, MA where weekly sessions will be held beginning October 14th at Main Street Stage, 57 Main Street.
PMP meets once a week and uses theatre games and improvisations to create monologue and scenes that communicate many of the issues and problems that teens face on a daily basis. The program culminates in a play written by the students in collaboration with a professional playwright. This final original work is presented in April at the conclusion of the program to students, social service agencies and the public.
PMP has two Pittsfield groups which meet Tuesday or Thursday evenings at Barrington Stage Co.’s Stage 2 at 36 Linden Street, Pittsfield as well as a group at Lee High School which meets on Thursdays and concentrates on acculturation issues among immigrant students. Playwright Mentoring Project is seeking teenagers to participate in all of the different programs. Each group is a separate entity that meets once a week from 6pm to 8 pm (except the Lee group which meets 2:30-4:30pm) starting in October. PMP is free and open to all teens.
Playwright Mentoring Project is the 2007 winner of the Coming Up Taller Award presented by the President’s Council on the Arts and Humanities.
For more information please contact the Director of Playwright Mentoring Project, Frank LaFrazia, at Barrington Stage at 413-499-5446 ext. 117. |
