NORTH ADAMS — A sports social-networking site created on Main Street has been drafted into the big leagues.

Boxcar Media Inc., iBerkshires.com's parent company, launched the first in a series of sports fan sites more than a year ago with Sawxheads.com. Now that site and similar ones based on the technology created by Boxcar are expanding under fast-growing TruMedia Networks.

Added to the lineup is popular Boston Red Sox commentator Jerry Remy, who's signed onto a strategic marketing and content distribution partnership with TruMedia Networks.

The award-winning New England Sports Network broadcaster will blog exclusively for Sawxheads.com. His Web site, www.theremyreport.com, will become part of the TruMedia advertising network. Remy will also join the TruMedia Networks board of directors.

"Jerry Remy is one of Boston's most recognized and revered sports figures and we are excited to have him join the TruMedia Networks team," said Rafe Anderson, CEO of TruMedia Networks. "Jerry will be an active member in the Sawxheads.com community by providing blog and video reports every week, interacting with fellow members and attending special Sawxheads.com events throughout the year.

"He shares our vision to make Sawxheads.com the premier grass-roots destination for Red Sox fans as we broaden the network's popularity across Red Sox Nation."

The social media technology company builds regional online communities for passionate sports fans. Sawxheads.com is part of an integrated suite of properties for fans of Boston's major sports teams including the Celtics (Celtsheads.com), the New England Patriots (Patsheads.com) and the Bruins (Blackandgoldheads.com).

Every community is built on TruMedia's social media technology platform employing advanced Web 2.0 social media tools, designed to provide members with a compelling interactive fan experience. Users can create their own unique profile and personal blog, catch up on the latest news and rumors from local sports media sources, post photos and share their opinions with other community members through instant messaging and online forums.

"We are really excited about the growth potential for Sawxheads.com and TruMedia," said Ozzie Alvarez, chairman of TruMedia and president of Boxcar Media. "We know Jerry's expertise and award-winning work will drive Sawxheads.com to the next level, making it the foremost networking site for Red Sox fans."

The partnership also brings Remy's popular Web site www.theremyreport.com under the TruMedia Networks umbrella as it becomes part of TruMedia's advertising network, a growing ecosystem of independent sports and entertainment Web sites. TruMedia will be responsible for marketing and business development activities, and will control Remy's online syndication rights.

"TruMedia's robust social media platform connects me with passionate fans all over the world," said Remy. "Sawxheads.com will continue to be a valuable resource for me as I prepare for every broadcast. It provides me with the daily pulse of Red Sox Nation. I am excited to broaden my audience and play a role in the continued growth and development of TruMedia's sports fan communities."

The former second baseman played 11 seasons in Major League Baseball with the California Angels (1975-1978) and the Red Sox (1978-1985) before beginning his broadcasting career. Since 1988, he has been Red Sox color analyst for broadcasts on NESN. In 2007, Sox fans elected him president of Red Sox Nation in a landslide vote. Over the course of his broadcast career, he's won four Emmy Awards and was named Massachusetts Sportscaster for the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters.
