WILIAMSTOWN – The weather was perfect -- low 70s with a slight wind and Middlebury's Courtney Mazzei was almost better as she fashioned a one over par 72 at Taconic Golf Club to lead Middlebury to its first NESCAC Tournament title. "It was quite frankly the best round of golf I've seen by a woman this year," said Eph co-head coach Kris Herman.

Williams had won the two previous NESCAC Tournament titles contested.

In NESCAC scoring the Middlebury Panthers were first, Williams second, Amherst third and Bates came in fourth.

The Panthers also walked away with the Williams Fall Classic title over a red hot St. Lawrence team that was fifth after day one but finished second. Host Williams and Mt. Holyoke tied for third and Amherst came in fifth.

After day one of the Williams Fall Classic Williams and Middlebury were tied for first at 325, followed by Amherst (326), Mount Holyoke (327) and St. Lawrence at 330.

Only Middlebury and St. Lawrence were able to shoot better on Sunday than on Saturday. Middlebury broke its tie with host Williams by lowering their team score by eight shots. Joining Mazzei on improving from Saturday to Sunday were Julie Ellenberger whose 83 was three shots better than the day before and Flora Weeks who lowered her opening round of 82 to 80.

St. Lawrence got a great boost from Lindsay Cone who sliced eight shots off her Saturday round and fired a 75. Overall St. Lawrence improved by six shots in 24 hours, tallying a 324 today.

Mazzei completed a personal double, as she was the medalist in both the Williams Fall Classic and the NESAC Tournament. Mazzei shot a 149 for the two-day Fall Classic honor.

Mount Holyoke's Zahra Aliza Hanif shot a 78 on each round and finished second in individual play with a 156.

Only Sunday's round of 18 counted towards the NESCAC Tournament title.

Host Williams struggled on Sunday, as none of the five Eph players could equal Saturday's score. Senior Melissa Barton and Anne O'Leary had the best score on the day for the purple with an 82. First year Kristen Tubbs had the best Eph finish in the Fall Classic with a score of 161.

On the Williams B team Lauren Anstey followed up her season low of 82 on Saturday with an 87 to show promise and Aimee Webber carded an 85 today.

The Ephs concluded the fall portion of their schedule today and will next play over spring break in Florida.

Companion Corner: Lucy at Second Chance Animal Shelter

By Breanna SteeleiBerkshires Staff

ARLINGTON, Vt. — There is an excited and energetic pup looking for her new family.

iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home.

Lucy is an 18-month-old heeler/terrier mix with energy to spare. She has been at the Second Chance Animal Shelter for about a month.

Lead canine care technician Alaura Lasher introduced us to her.

"She is a very energetic girl. She loves to play, and as you can see, she came to us from animal control," she said.

Lucy was not in a great situation before coming to the shelter and they are still trying to learn more about her.

"They had seized her from a pretty neglectful situation. She was actually technically abandoned. She just came to us this last month, so she's still showing us all of her energy she has," Lasher said.

Lucy is able to go home with a dog-savvy cat and older children as she can be a bit jumpy with her bounds of energy.

"The perfect home for her is one that is able to give her a ton of attention and a ton of time playing, she loves her time outside," said Lasher. "She can run forever and not get tired. She can possibly live with another dog who is used to more of a pushy play style. She can be a little pushy when she plays, just because she's so hyper."

Since she is young, she is still learning and training with the staff and might need more with someone who takes her home.

"To the best of our knowledge, she's just a healthy young girl, because she's only a year and a half old, she still got a little bit of learning and training that she could use."

But Lucy is always happy to see anyone and immediately wants to play and say hi. Her endless energy makes her a great companion to play outside with and then hang out after a long day of fun.

"She's just a super sweet girl again. She'll need some help with the training, but as long as you've got time to burn out her energy, she'll make a great family dog," she said.

If you think Lucy might be the girl for you, reach out to Second Chance Animal Shelter and learn more about her on their website.
