"October is the time of year we spotlight breast cancer awareness and focus on the treatments and advances in treating breast cancer," said Polly Macpherson, the Reach for Breast Health program manager. "Our goal to bring outreach and awareness to the Northern Berkshire Community could not happen without the collaboration of some key organizations like the local public libraries."
Macpherson will present "The 10 Myths about Breast Cancer" on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. at the North Adams Public Library and again on Thursday, Oct. 23, at noon at the Milne Public Library in Williamstown. The presentation is also being offered at local businesses and community organizations throughout the month of October.
Reach for Breast Health has also coordinated the Chain of Caring for Northern Berkshire County. The chain is a pink wristband that carries the name of a loved one and is added to the Chain of Caring. The chain is currently displayed on Main Street and at local businesses throughout Northern Berkshire County. Those interested in purchasing a link can call 413-664-5326.
Reach for Breast Health will hold its biannual Girls' Night Out event on Monday, Oct. 27, in the North Adams Regional Hospital lobby and short-stay unit. The event runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and features free massages, mini-facials, women's resource information, healthy snacks, a stress-buster workshop, a tour of the new Northern Berkshire obstetrics and gynecology offices and mammogram scheduling. There will be door prizes as well.
Reach for Breast Health is a comprehensive breast health program serving the women of North Berkshire County. Macpherson is a certified breast health navigator. The Eileen Barrett Fund supports the group. It is also supported in part by a grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation Inc. and individual gifts and contributions.
