The game found its initial momentum in Unions first goal scored within the first five minutes of the first period by sophomore Alexandra King (Chester Springs, PA), followed by an Eph goal by senior Julia Nawrocki (Winchester, UK). Despite a total of 17 shots by Union (12 on goal), and 14 shots by Williams (8 on goal), the score remained 1-1 until the final buzzer sounded. During the regulation game, the aggressive offense was reflected in 3 penalty corners for Williams, and 7 for Union.
The first and second overtime each continued the avid pursuit for victory with Ephs gaining 4 penalty corners to Unions 3. With sudden victory in effect, the game's winner was determined by a Union goal scored by junior Lizzy Moran (Unionville, PA) off an assist by sophomore Shannon Brady (Bernardston, MA) with 7:10 remaining on the clock for the second overtime.
Many shot attempts, yet few goals allowed can be attributed to tough defensive play for both Union and Williams. Eph sophomore goalie Katrina Tulla (New Cannan, CT) played an unrelentless 92:50 (regulation and both overtimes), tallying 10 saves for the evening. For Union, senior goalie Liz Stanford (Acton, MA) also played for 92:50 ending the game in 7 total saves.
"We had a focused and intense first overtime game of the season," said Eph Coach Alix Rorke, "it was a good battle and we had our chances, but we just didn't pull out the win tonight." The Ephs will play away this Saturday at Amherst.
