MCLA Men's Basketball Team dropped their home opener 56-83MCLA Sports Info Deborah Raber 08:47AM / Thursday, November 20, 2008
NORTH ADAMS, Mass - The MCLA men's basketball team dropped their home opener 56-83 to NAIA nationally ranked Fisher College. The game was fast paced and tight at the start, but the Falcons had four players finishing in double figures, two of which also doubled in rebounds, allowing them to pull away to the lead for the remainder of the game.
First-year forward, Dennis Norford (New Haven, CT) led all scoring shooting 70% from the floor finishing with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Team mate Brandon Hamilton (Sarasota, FL) also finished with a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Their scoring efforts were joined by Casey Pursell's (Seattle, WA) 15 points and Shahab Syed (Dix Hills, NY) 11 points.
MCLA's first-year Chris Harris (Boston, MA) and junior Mike Perreault (Whitinsville, MA) both finished with 10 points, shooting just 25% from the floor as a team did not help the Trailblazers on the night. Led by Jon Greenberg's (Antwerp, Belgium) 13 rebounds, MCLA did hold a slight 57-54 edge on the boards.
The Trailblazers bench is deep and Coach Morrison was able to use all of it to see what nine new players could bring to his growing program. Seeing five of those newcomers contribute in the points column for MCLA makes the future look bright. With the first game jitters gone, this weekend MCLA will travel to Amherst College to take on the 2008 national championship runner-up Lord Jeffs in the Ken Wright Invitational. Also over the weekend, the 5-1 Falcons will travel to the Houghton College Classic.

| I think that Chris Harris is the best thing that has happened to the team. Hopefully with enough practice and encouragement, he can help the team as a whole to become more successful. | | from: | on: 01-21-2009 12:00AM I Agree (0) - I Disagree (0) |
